Welcome to Connecticut’s Innovative Idea Initiative!!
The Innovative Idea Initiative (I3) was created to allow current and retired Connecticut State Employees to share ideas and strategies to deliver government services in a more efficient and effective manner and to reduce the cost of government operations. Via this website you can submit your thoughts and ideas to my office. All ideas submitted will be reviewed by the Innovations Review Panel and those that are deemed to be particularly meritorious will be publicly recognized and the individuals who submitted the ideas will be eligible for Innovations Awards. Employees’ suggestions can be one of the most powerful and meaningful avenues to more effective government. I encourage you to think about changes that would allow our state government to function more efficiently and effectively, and to submit your ideas. Here are some tips to spark your imagination:
- State processes and procedures that can be improved to avoid errors and reworks;
- State services that can reach our citizens faster and with less expense;
- Contracts that can be re-structured to give the state maximum value;
- Services that are no longer being requested by the public that would allow state resources to be deployed elsewhere;
- Postage, travel, and equipment costs that can be eliminated by doing work differently;
- Electronic and information technology solutions that will save money in delivering services;
- Cross-division and cross-agency partnerships that can be created to better deliver services and eliminate redundancies;
- Revenue the state may be missing from unreported services or delays in submitting reports and paperwork;
- Ways to better schedule work and travel to reduce costs;
- Relocating state operations to places where services are most needed;
- Safety and work procedures that can be changed to reduce employee accidents and injuries;
- Cars, trucks and other expensive equipment that are not being used correctly or fully.
When you submit an idea, please include as much information as you can -- and be specific -- so that we will fully understand the nature of your suggestion and the impact it will have on state operations. For example, it is more helpful to suggest that the state use video conferencing for specific meetings, hearings or conferences than to generally suggest that the state increase utilization of video conferencing capabilities. So, let’s turn on the brain-power and generate some great ideas! Good Luck!
Governor M. Jodi Rell
