Office of Finance and Administration – Information Technology Unit
 
The Information Technology Unit within the Office of Finance and Administration is offering an internship to eligible undergraduate and graduate students.  The intern will work closely with the Information Technology Unit staff, sharing responsibility in the following areas:
  • Helpdesk Support
        Software (Windows XP, MS Office, Lotus Notes, etc.)
        Hardware (PC, laptop, printer, scanner, etc.)
  • Software installations/upgrades
  • SQL database maintenance
  • Setup and networking of PCs and other hardware
  • Server backups
  • Surplus of equipment
 
Knowledge of or experience in the following areas is preferred:
 
  • Information systems and technology
  • Data processing and data communications equipment
  • Concepts of networking and operating systems
 
Possession of the following skills is a plus:
 
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Logic and analytical skills
  • Technical problem solving skills
 
 
Office of Military Affairs

The Office of Military Affairs is offering an internship to undergraduate or graduate students with an interest in government or military affairs.  The intern will work with the Executive Director for Military Affairs and be responsible for defense industry and military research, initial drafting of documents for legislative and administrative purposes, attending governmental hearings, liaison activities with other governmental and defense industry entities, and other general administrative duties as assigned.
 
The intern will gain practical experience for future jobs related to defense and military policies and research.  Students should be available to work at least 20 hours per week between Monday and Friday.  Students with some statistics and good software skills are preferred.  The internship is located in Hartford, Connecticut.
 
 
Office of Responsible Development    

The Office of Responsible Development is currently offering an internship or cooperative education opportunity to eligible undergraduate or graduate students.
 
The intern/cooperative education student will work in the Office of Responsible Development. The intern/cooperative education student may be assigned to the Strategy and Planning unit or the Project Development Unit. Interns will be required to work 15-20 hours per week during the semester. Cooperative Education students will work 40 hours per week during the normal semester period. 
 
For the Strategy and Planning Unit, the intern gains practical experience with the preparation of various engineering and planning documents in support of office activities.  The Intern shall:
 
  • Receive an orientation to all agency operations and quasi-public agencies;
  • Assist with the design and implementation of the planning process, where appropriate;
  • Assists with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) reviews of agency sponsored actions;
  • Assists with Connecticut Environmental Policy Act (CEPA) reviews of agency sponsored actions;
  • Assist with the coordination of agency activities with OPM and the Interagency Steering Council, as needed;
  • Assist with review of project activities as related to the Connecticut Conservation and Development Policies Plan requirements;
    Assist in eligibility analysis of project development proposals and financial assistance proposals;
  • Provide field and engineering monitoring support of agency sponsored real estate development;
    Support program and project analysis through map preparation and data assembly using ArcGIS.
  • Support DECD programs amendments to ensure conformance with state responsible growth standards;
  • Assist in the drafting of each plan/report narrative;
  • Assist in the design of plans, reports and outreach material;
  • Assist with development of materials for presentations;
  • Attend legislative hearings and other agency-related meetings, as appropriate; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

For the Project Development Unit, the intern will assist with the preparation of various construction and engineering projects and reviews in support of office activities.  The
Intern shall:
  • Receive an orientation to all agency operations and quasi-public agencies;
  • Assist senior staff in the administration of existing programs and services;
  • Assist with Connecticut Environmental Policy Act (CEPA) reviews of agency sponsored actions;
  • Assist with state/federal regulatory agency coordination, permits and approvals;
  • Assist with the review of project master plans and construction plans and specifications;
  • Assist with the development of project cost estimates for agency sponsored projects;
  • Assist in eligibility analysis of project development proposals and financial assistance proposals;
  • Provide field and engineering monitoring support of agency sponsored real estate development;
  • Assist with updates to DECD procurement and contracting guidelines;
  • Assist in the drafting of each plan/report narrative;
  • Assist in the design of plans, reports and outreach material;
  • Assist with development of materials for presentations;
  • Attend legislative hearings and other agency-related meetings, as appropriate;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 
 
Government Relations Office

The Government Relations Office is currently offering an exciting internship opportunity to eligible undergraduate and graduate students.  Internships will be offered year-round on both a full and part-time basis in this office.  All internships will be offered on an unpaid basis unless otherwise indicated.
 
Interns will gain valuable work experience while completing a variety of projects, including:  conducting research of current and proposed legislation; assisting in preparing the department’s legislative package; monitoring the progress of legislative proposals; assisting in the department's regulation process; and providing support to DECD government relations staff.  Interns will be able to attend legislative hearings while the legislature is in session.
 
The purpose of this program is to allow students to work with DECD staff to design a program that will not only meet their individual needs, but will also assist the agency in achieving its program and project goals.  We work closely with students educational institutions to ensure that each student receives appropriate academic credit for their internships.
