The Adult Services Division



The Adult Services Division is responsible for a number of programs.  These programs include the Supplemental Nutirition Assistance Program (SNAP).  SNAP was called the Food Stamp Program until October 1, 2008 at which time Congress changed the name of the program. The division also runs programs that give cash, medical and nutritional help. The State Supplement program, Medicaid for the Aged, Blind and Disabled (MAABD), the Medicare Savings Programs (MSP) and the Connecticut Assistance for Organ Transplant Recipients (ConnTRANS) programs help adults with disabilities and the elderly.  The State Administered General Assistance (SAGA) program, the Medicaid for Low-Income Adults program and the SNAP program help people of all ages.  The SNAP Team handles the SNAP program.  The Adult Services Team handles all the other programs listed here. 

 

The State Supplement program gives money to help people with disabilities and the elderly meet basic living costs.  Follow this link for more information about the State Supplement program.  

 

MAABD gives help with medical expenses.  It covers medical services such as doctor and hospital fees.  Follow this link for more information about the Medicaid program.

 

ConnTRANS gives help for the costs related to having a transplant.  Follow this link for more information about the ConnTRANS program.

 

SAGA Cash Assistance (SCA) gives money to help adults without children who are unable to work for medical reasons.  The program also helps families who are not eligible for other department programs. Follow this link for more information about the SAGA program.

 

Medicaid for Low-Income Adults is a health care program that pays for medical care and treatment similar to private health insurance. Follow this link for more information on Medicaid for Low-Income Adults

 

The Medicare Savings Programs help individuals pay for the cost of their Medicare Premiums.  Some individuals may also be eligible to have their Medicare co-pays and deductibles covered as well.  Follow these links for more information about the MSP.

 

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP helps to provide food for eligible households. This program was formerly called the Food Stamp Program. Follow this link to SNAP Overview .

 

The division writes all the rules and regulations for the programs.  The program rules are based on federal and state law.  Staff checks to make sure that the offices are following the program rules and doing things correctly.  The division staff helps to explain program rules to the workers in our local offices.  They also answer questions, about the programs, from legislators and the general public.  The division also works closely with community agencies, providing information and education services.
