From the Commissioner

Hello, and welcome to the Department of Social Services (DSS) website!  This site is designed to provide you with information about DSS and our crucial programs and services. I believe you will find it useful and easy to navigate.
The mission of DSS is to provide a range of services to help meet basic needs of food, shelter, economic support and health care; promote and support the choice to live with dignity in one's own home and community;and to promote and support the achievement of economic viability in the workforce for Connecticut residents. At this time, the Department administers over 90 legislatively authorized programs to provide a broad range of services to the elderly, persons with disabilities, families, and individuals who need assistance in maintaining or achieving their full potential for self-direction, self-reliance and independent living.

Our site allows you to request more information about the Department and our programs, as well as the ability to provide input on the site's content. I thank you for your visit today, and would like to hear from you if you can’t find what you need, or if there is a way to make this site work better for you.

Sincerely,
Michael P. Starkowski
Commissioner
Department of Social Services
