Connecticut’s Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan will be unable to accept new applications unless they are postmarked by Thursday, February 28, 2013, in accordance with federal guidelines.

Connecticut’s Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (previously referred to as a temporary high-risk pool program) is operated by the Health Reinsurance Association under contract with the Department of Social Services, administering state agency. Medical benefits are coordinated through the UnitedHealthcare provider network.

This suspension will help ensure that funds are available through 2013 to continuously cover people currently enrolled in PCIP.
Starting next year, the Affordable Care Act guarantees that all Americans – regardless of their health status or pre-existing conditions – will have access to coverage. People will be able to apply for affordable health insurance coverage choices in health insurance marketplaces when open enrollment begins on October 1, 2013. Coverage begins on January 1, 2014.
