DRS: Welcome

Business Tax Help Day

The Connecticut Department of Revenue Services (DRS) invites you to attend our FREE Tax Help Day. These informative sessions are presented by DRS and are designed for the tax novice.  You  will have the opportunity to sign up for any two, one hour sessions from 12 - 1 pm and 1:15 - 2:15 pm.

SESSION 1 - Getting Started in Business

This session will provide you with information and resources to help you understand what is expected of you as a newly registered business. In this session, we will:

  • Explain the correspondence you will receive upon registration
  • Describe the most common tax types that you may be registered for
  • Outline your tax filing obligations and due dates
  • Provide helpful resources and contact information
SESSION 2 - Taxpayer Service Center Overview

The on-line Taxpayer Service Center (TSC) is the Department of Revenue Services’ tool used to file returns, make payments, view past tax history and make changes to your account. This informal one hour presentation will give a brief overview of the features and functionality of the TSC. Since you are required to file some of the more common taxes electronically, we will focus on how to file those returns – such as Sales Tax and Wage Withholding. We encourage questions as we demonstrate how to input sample returns so that you feel confident to file on your own.

SESSION 3 - Sales Tax Overview

Sales and Use Taxes are applied to a wide variety of goods and services. This informal one-hour presentation will cover the basics of sales and use tax, how and when to use exemption certificates, and good record keeping techniques. Learn how to avoid the pit-falls before they happen.
