DRS Is Going Green And So Can You

The Connecticut Department of Revenue Services is going green by reducing the use of paper and helping to cut greenhouse gasses by eliminating some mailings. You can join our green initiative by taking the following actions.

E-filing Is Green Filing

Eliminate the use of paper and fuel used to transport returns through the mail. File and pay electronically instead. Most individual and business taxes can use the Taxpayer Service Center (TSC) for a cleaner, greener way to file and pay taxes. Visit www.ct.gov/TSC to create an account and eliminate the paper clutter in your life.

Make good use of our calendar pages to remind yourself of return due dates.  Please go to our "Return and Payment Due Dates" logo on the left side of the homepage for access to 2009 return dues dates and the 2009 EFT Calendar for Taxpayers Required to Pay Electronically.  You can bookmark the calendar pages or add the due dates to your own calendar to ensure you file and pay on time.

Green Up Your Green With Direct Deposit

Refunds go directly to your bank account!

Stop those paper checks and driving to the bank to deposit your Connecticut income tax refund. Choose the direct deposit option on your income tax return instead. Whether filing electronically (ideal) or on paper, you can have the payment electronically submitted to your checking or savings account.

In addition to being more environmentally friendly, direct deposit enables you to access your refund more quickly (in four business days or less when filing through the TSC); and minimizes the risk of losing a paper check or having it “lost in the mail.”

Currently the direct deposit option is only available for individual income tax.

Environmentally Friendly Communications

Using the DRS Secure Mailbox in the TSC

No more paper letters and waiting days or weeks to get a sensitive tax question answered through the mail. The TSC offers a secure mailbox option where account-related questions (about a bill, a refund, a return, etc.), can be asked and answered electronically. All messages between you and DRS remain within the DRS secure firewall where your confidential information is fully protected. 

The secure mailbox feature is available only from your TSC account.  To set up a mailbox and send a secure message to DRS, log into your TSC account and select "My Secure Mailbox" on the left toolbar.
