Power Failure Extends January Filing Deadline for Taxpayers Required to Electronically File

For Immediate Release:
Friday, January 31, 2014

Hartford – Department of Revenue Services (DRS) today announced a deadline extension for taxpayers required to electronically file and pay their business taxes by January 31, 2014. Taxpayers will now have until midnight, Monday, February 3, 2014 to electronically file and pay those taxes.

A power failure disrupted the servers that support the state’s Taxpayer Service Center (TSC). This caused some taxpayers to receive error messages during the filing process, while others simply were unable to access the system. It also disrupted the business Telefile system.

The filing extension only applies to taxpayers required to electronically file and pay their state taxes. Taxpayers submitting paper returns for filings due on January 31, 2014 must have their return postmarked no later than January 31.

DRS notifies taxpayers if they are required to electronically file and pay business taxes.
