Healthcare Facility 2016 Data Reports for

CONSUMERS

Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are infections patients can get while receiving medical treatment in a healthcare facility. The Centers for Disease Control and Preventions (CDC), Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH), healthcare facilities, and healthcare providers are making elimination of HAIs a priority. Infection data are reported by healthcare facility staff to the CDC National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) and are analyzed by DPH HAI Program staff.

These reports describe Connecticut's progress in preventing central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI), catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI), select surgical site infections (SSI), hospital-onset Clostridium difficile infections (CDI), hospital-onset methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteremia (bloodstream infections) and dialysis-related infections in healthcare facilities.

The Aggregate Data Report may help patients who need hospital care learn about healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) at the healthcare facility they may choose. In this report, hospitals, long term care hospitals, inpatient rehabilitation facilities and outpatient hemodialysis facilities are listed together in tables. You can see information about different healthcare facilities in the same place. Patients can use this information to ask healthcare providers questions before seeking and/or while receiving medical treatment. Asking the right questions can also help you learn what you can do to prevent infections.

The Individual Healthcare Facility Data Reports each shows one facility and compares that facility to both the statewide 2016 average and national baseline. The reports allow the consumer to know how well the healthcare facility is doing to prevent HAIs.
