ABC Program Description:

Connecticut has recently implemented a new billable infant oral health program for physicians and childcare providers called the ABC Program (Access for Baby Care to Dental Examinations and Fluoride Varnish).  This program, designed specifically for children that participate in the HUSKY Program at increased risk for developing dental decay, has been demonstrating promising results in decreasing the occurrence of early childhood tooth decay.  Physicians can now be reimbursed $45 for providing infant oral health education, oral health examination risk asessment and fluoride varnish application.

To bill for this service, physicians must complete a one-hour training course, which is offered through teleconferences organized by the Connecticut Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, online training through CT TRAIN or in-office trainings provided by EPIC.

  • The one hour course consists of a didactic module that provides instruction on assessing children for dental caries risk, the core educational messages to promote good oral health, what to look for when performing an oral examination and how to apply fluoride varnish.
  • This program, designed specifically for children that participate in the HUSKY Program at increased risk for developing dental decay.
  • CME for physicians
  • Reimbursement is provided through the Connecticut Department of Social Services
