Before applying for licensure, please familiarize yourself with the general licensing policies.
In order to be eligible for advanced practice registered nurse licensure, an individual must meet the following requirements:
Hold a current Connecticut registered nurse license;
Hold and maintain current certification as a nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, or nurse anesthetist from one of the following national organizations:
The American Nurses' Association;
The National Certification Corporation for the Obstetric, Gynecologic and Neonatal Nursing Specialties;
The National Certification Board of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Nurses;
The American Association of Nurse Anesthetists ;
The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners;
The Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation; or
The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses CCNS certification;
Have successfully completed thirty (30) hours of education in pharmacology for advanced nursing practice;
Hold a master’s degree in nursing or in a related field recognized for certification as a nurse practitioner, a clinical nurse specialist or a nurse anesthetist by one of the above recognized certifying bodies. Individuals who received initial certification by one of the requisite national certifying bodies prior to December 31, 1994, need not meet this requirement.
Documentation Requirements
Individuals must arrange for submission of the following directly from the source to this office:
A completed, notarized application with photograph and fee of $200.00. The fee must be in the form of a bank check or money order (no personal checks will be accepted), made payable to "Treasurer, State of Connecticut";
Official verification of current certification by one of the above-mentioned national certifying agencies (This office can obtain verification of AANA certification online. Please provide your certification number in the space provided above);
Official verification of successful completion of at least thirty (30) hours of instruction in pharmacology for advanced nursing practice, sent by the issuing institution directly to this office. Please select this link for the required form. This verification should be completed by the Dean or Director of the post-basic nursing educational program or, if applicable, by the director of a post-graduate program for advanced practice registered nurses in which pharmacology coursework was completed.

Verification of all licenses held, current or expired, from each state in which the applicant is or was licensed as nurse practitioner, registered nurse or practical nurse. Please select this link for the required form.
Due to the availability of online license verification by several states, this office performs verification for registered nurse and licensed practical nurses from the following states’ licenses directly (you need not arrange for verification of licenses issued by the following states): Georgia and Illinois, you will be notified in the event that your involvement is required.
The National Council of State Boards of Nursing's Nursys System verifies electronically licenses issued by several states. Please select this link for a list of Nursys participating states. You may register for verifications for Nursys participating states on-line.
