The Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) today announced the state’s sixth death linked to infection with the novel H1N1 virus. The person, a New Haven County resident, was in the 40 – 49 year old age group and had underlying medical conditions. The person died recently after hospitalization. Additional confirmatory testing is being done by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Connecticut Department of Public Health (CT DPH), in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, are warning consumers not to eat any varieties of prepackaged Nestle Toll House refrigerated cookie dough due to the risk of contamination with E. coli O157:H7 (a bacterium that causes food borne illness).

The Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) today confirmed 5 5 new cases of novel H1N1 influenza (swine flu) among Connecticut residents. Positive results for H1N1 flu were confirmed today at the department’s Public Health Laboratory for residents of the following municipalities: Andover (1), Bolton (2), Ridgefield (1), and Waterbury (1).

| 6/1/2009 | State Mosquito Program Announces Start of Mosquito Testing for West Nile and Eastern Equine Encephalitis Viruses |

The State of Connecticut Mosquito Management Program is again monitoring mosquitoes for the presence of viruses that can cause illness in people including West Nile virus (WNV) and eastern equine encephalitis virus (EEE) in 2009. The mosquito trapping and testing program, coordinated by the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station (CAES), will begin on June 1st. Reporting test results will begin the following week.
