Meeting concerning the proposed replacement of Bridge No. 00688 carrying Route 14 over Moosup River, in the town of
The purpose of the project is to replace the existing structure with a precast
reinforced concrete rigid frame structure on pile-supported footings. The new structure will also feature a 5-foot
sidewalk along the north side of the bridge. Bridge No. 00688 is a single 34-ft span, with a curb-to-curb roadway
width of 37 ft.-4 in. The structure was
built in 1926 and carries one lane of traffic in
each direction on Route 14 over Moosup River. The estimated 2015 Average Daily Traffic
(ADT) is approximately 2,100 vehicles, 4 percent of which is truck
traffic. A full structure replacement is
required because it is hydraulically inadequate, scour critical, and the
concrete-encased steel multi-beam superstructure is heavily deteriorated. The superstructure is rated to be in poor
