The Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a Public
Information Meeting concerning the proposed rehabilitation of Bridge No. 03295,
supporting Route 190 over the Connecticut River and Amtrak Railroad in the
towns of Suffield and Enfield, Connecticut.
The purpose of the project is to address the
structural deficiencies of Bridge No. 03295.
The existing bridge superstructure consists of nine spans. Eight spans consist of a steel
stringer-floorbeam-girder superstructure, while the eastern span over the
railroad consists of a simple multi-girder superstructure. The existing bridge substructure consists of
concrete abutments supported on piles and concrete piers founded on spread
The recommended rehabilitation for this structure
involves preservation type repairs to improve various structural steel and
concrete deficiencies, and select joint deficiencies. The anticipated scope of repairs includes:
abrasive blast cleaning and field painting at all beam ends and floorbeams,
repairs and spot painting of the superstructure steel, joint replacement,
cleaning and lubricating frozen expansion bearings, and other miscellaneous
It is anticipated that the superstructure rehabilitation work will
require lane shifts and/or shoulder closures to facilitate the work. One 12-foot lane in either direction shall be
maintained at all times during construction.
Pedestrian and bicycle access to the multi-use trail, as well as the
sidewalk along the bridge shall be maintained at all times during construction. Right-of-way impacts associated with the
proposed project are not anticipated.
Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2020 based on the
availability of funding. The estimated
construction cost for this project is approximately $2 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken
with 80 percent Federal Funds and 20 percent State funds.
The Public Information Meeting is being held to afford a full
opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views
and comments the community may have concerning this proposed project.
