Bridge No.03295, Rt.190 over CT River & Amtrak R.R. in Suffield & Enfield Connecticut

The Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a Public Information Meeting concerning the proposed rehabilitation of Bridge No. 03295, supporting Route 190 over the Connecticut River and Amtrak Railroad in the towns of Suffield and Enfield, Connecticut.

The purpose of the project is to address the structural deficiencies of Bridge No. 03295.  The existing bridge superstructure consists of nine spans.  Eight spans consist of a steel stringer-floorbeam-girder superstructure, while the eastern span over the railroad consists of a simple multi-girder superstructure.  The existing bridge substructure consists of concrete abutments supported on piles and concrete piers founded on spread footings.

The recommended rehabilitation for this structure involves preservation type repairs to improve various structural steel and concrete deficiencies, and select joint deficiencies.  The anticipated scope of repairs includes: abrasive blast cleaning and field painting at all beam ends and floorbeams, repairs and spot painting of the superstructure steel, joint replacement, cleaning and lubricating frozen expansion bearings, and other miscellaneous minor repairs.

It is anticipated that the superstructure rehabilitation work will require lane shifts and/or shoulder closures to facilitate the work.  One 12-foot lane in either direction shall be maintained at all times during construction.  Pedestrian and bicycle access to the multi-use trail, as well as the sidewalk along the bridge shall be maintained at all times during construction. Right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed project are not anticipated.

Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2020 based on the availability of funding.  The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $2 million.  This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80 percent Federal Funds and 20 percent State funds.

The Public Information Meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning this proposed project.

The meeting facility is ADA accessible.  Language assistance may be requested by contacting the Departmentís Office of Communications at (860) 594-3062 at least five business days prior to the meeting.  Persons with hearing and/or speech disabilities may dial 711 for Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS).  Language assistance is provided at no cost to the public and efforts will be made to respond to timely requests for assistance.
