Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a Construction Public
Informational Meeting concerning the proposed rehabilitation of Bridge No.
00807, Ridge Road over Routes 5/15 in Wethersfield. The Construction Public Informational Meeting
is being held to notify the public of the upcoming construction project, and
relay any design changes that have occurred since the previous Public
Information Meeting held in January 2014.
The purpose of the project is to rehabilitate the existing bridge via
full and partial depth deck concrete patching on the rigid frame slab as
necessary. The rehabilitation effort
will focus on repairing the heavily deteriorated portion of the fascia soffit
up to the longitudinal construction joint in the rigid frame slab. The existing stone masonry parapets and
associated concrete parapets will be replaced with a crash-worthy parapet
topped by curved chain link fencing. The
existing masonry knee walls along the structure will be removed and the
utilities contained within will be relocated beneath the newly constructed
sidewalk along the west side of the bridge.
The proposed sidewalks will be widened to match the existing edge of
road, keeping the existing roadway width unchanged. The stone from the existing parapets and
removed knee walls will be reused on both faces of the parapet to maintain a
façade similar to the existing. New
membrane waterproofing will be placed over the entire frame prior to the
construction of the new fill, pavement, and sidewalks.
The proposed construction will be performed in two stages, maintaining
signal controlled alternating one-way traffic along Ridge Road. Vehicles exiting Oakdale Street onto Ridge
Road will be detoured along Carleton and Harding Street as a means of
protecting local traffic due to sightline issues during construction. Vehicles entering Oakdale Street from Ridge
Road will not be restricted. One sidewalk
along Ridge Road will be protected and maintained during each stage of construction
to accommodate pedestrian traffic.
Right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed project are not
