The project is identified as State Project No.
The purpose of the project is to provide traffic operational and safety
Route 172 and Main Street South located off of I-84, Interchange 14 in
Southbury. The project involves
the following: 1) The Route 172/Main
Street South intersection will be widened to provide for a through-lane, and exclusive
left- and right-turn lanes at each approach.
The existing traffic signal at this intersection will be replaced with
new equipment. 2) The Westbound Off-Ramp
will be realigned across from the Westbound On-Ramp, creating a single
intersection with Route 172. The Route
172 Northbound approach will provide two through-lanes and an exclusive
left-turn lane. The Southbound approach
will provide one through-lane and an exclusive right-turn lane.
The Westbound Off-Ramp approach will provide
separate left-and right-turn lanes. This intersection will be signalized and
designed to operate concurrently with
the Route 172/Main Street South
intersection. 3) The Route
172/Eastbound Ramps/Lakeside Road/Georges Hill Road intersection is proposed to
be designed as a roundabout. 4) The commuter
parking lot that is accessed
from Main Street
South will be expanded to add
approximately 50 parking spaces.
Right-of-way impacts associated with the
proposed project are not anticipated.
Construction is anticipated to begin in Spring
