The relocated Route 72 in Bristol and Plainville involves the construction of a four lane arterial highway with appropriate turning lanes from the vicinity of the present terminus of the existing Route 72 expressway at Forestville Ave. (Route 372) to the vicinity of Middle St. (approximately 2.4 miles).  A raised median treatment to separate traffic from Route 372 to Pine and Todd St.  The project also provides over 2 miles of additional state and local roadway improvements.

Status

Beginning on November 6, 2009 Bohemia Street in Plainville will be closed to through traffic and the intersection of Route 72 expressway and Forestville Ave. will be realigned.  Traffic will be limited to one lane in the east bound direction from the intersection to the Pequabuck River Bridge.

The contractor is constructing the retaining wall between Riverside Ave. and the Pequabuck River in Bristol. This work requires traffic to be shifted away from the site.

Utility companies will be relocating their facilities along Pine Street from Pine Lake to Route 229 (Middle Street).
