Project No. 115-117, Putnam Repair and Maintenance Facility Tank Replacement

The Connecticut Department of Transportation's (Department) Office of Engineering is developing plans for the replacement of its motor fueling facility on the site of the existing repair and maintenance facility at 3 Industrial Park Road in Putnam.  The purpose of this project is to upgrade the storage tanks to comply with the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection regulations.

It is the Department's policy to keep the public informed when such projects are undertaken.  It is important that the community share their concerns with us to assist in the project's development.  If there is adequate interest, an informational meeting will be conducted.  At this time, it is not anticipated that a formal public hearing will be necessary.

This project involves the replacement of the motor fuel underground storage tanks with aboveground storage tanks.  The new motor fuel storage aboveground tanks will be located in the area of the existing tanks on the north side of the facility between the site pavement and Killingly Avenue.  These tanks will be protected with pipe bollards and enclosed in a 10-foot high chain link fence with PVC slats.  This project will also include the replacement of the motor fuel island with dispensers installed adjacent to the tanks for unleaded gasoline and diesel fuel.

The present schedule indicates that final design plans will be available in August 2012.  The project will be state funded.
