The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that construction is scheduled to begin on or about March 19, 2012 for the Replacement of Bridge No. 01077 (Route 70 over Broad Brook) in the Town of Cheshire.

The project consists of the replacement of Bridge No. 01077 carrying Route 70 over Harbor Brook between Cornerstone Court and Diamond Hill Road.  The work includes new bridge abutments, wing walls, structural steel and concrete decking. Approximately 150 feet of the approach roadway on either side of the bridge will be reconstructed including new road base and bituminous pavement. New metal beam rail will also be placed on either side of the bridge.

DOT Project No. 0025-0137 was awarded to NJR Construction LLC, of Terryville, CT, on March 25, 2011, at a value of $ 1,044,066.21 and is scheduled for completion by November 27, 2013.

Route 70 between Cornerstone Court and Diamond Hill Road may be restricted to alternating one way traffic between 8:00 am and 6:00 a.m. for the completion of utility and preliminary bridge work. Once the bridge work begins traffic will be continuously restricted to alternating one way traffic utilizing temporary precast concrete barrier and traffic signals.
