Pavement Preservation to begin October 16, 2009 on Route 8 in the Towns of Naugatuck, Beacon Falls and Seymour

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the start of a pavement preservation project on Route 8 from the vicinity of Exit 26 (Rte 63) to Exit 22 (Rte 67) in the Towns of Naugatuck, Beacon Falls and Seymour beginning October 18, 2009. The project is one of several transportation infrastructure initiatives being funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

The project consists of pavement milling and resurfacing of the travel lanes, new line striping, rumble strips, and a NOVACHIPTM Surface Treatment that provides improved skid, wear, and rutting resistance.

The first phase of construction will focus on Route 8 southbound.  Milling operations will begin Sunday night, October 18, 2009 at 6 pm at the project’s northern limit at Exit 26.   Most of the project work will be completed by the end of November with the NOVACHIPTM Surface Treatment completed in May of 2010.

Special Advisory

The shoulder areas will remain closed during the milling and paving operation.  The contractor is scheduled to be paving one lane at a time and there will be a taper along the edge to allow vehicles to move across lanes.  Motorists are cautioned to reduce speeds in area and stay in lanes unless passing or exiting.

The contractor is currently scheduled to work nights but may work some day time hours if needed.  Motorists can expect lanes closures as follows:

Sunday – Friday

Route 8 SB:        6:00 pm to 5:00 am

Route 8 NB:        6:00 pm to 5:00 am

The Contract for 006-0120 was awarded to Tilcon Connecticut, Inc of New Britain, CT on October 14, 2009 at a cost of $2,789,295.05 and is scheduled to be completed on May 17, 2010.
