The Department of Transportation announced today, that beginning July 22, 2008, the on-ramp from Maple Street to Route 2 Eastbound will be closed due to safety concerns.  Traffic will be detoured via Main Street and Putnam Blvd. to Route 2 Eastbound.  This ramp closure will be in effect for approximately 3-4 months pending the next phase of construction which will provide for a safe merge into mainline traffic.  Work in this area is part of the ongoing reconstruction of Route 2 in East Hartford and Glastonbury.

Work on this $16.7 million project is being performed by the Arborio Corporation of Cromwell under contract with the Connecticut Department of Transportation.  The anticipated completion date of this project is in December, 2008.

Motorists are urged to obey the posted speed limit and precede with caution through this and all other construction work zones.
