NEWINGTON, Conn. - State Transportation Commissioner Ralph J. Carpenter announced today that a Bridge Maintenance project will be performed on I-84 (westbound) between Exits 23 and 18, in Waterbury.  This project is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 23, 2007. 

Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zone.  The regular work schedule for this project is 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. (Saturday evening).  The left lane will be closed during work operations.  Also the Exit 19 westbound ramp to Route 8 southbound will be closed and a posted detour will be in effect.  If cancelled due to inclement weather the rescheduled date would be Saturday, July 13, 2007. 

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions.  Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
