Daytime Closure of Route 1, Washington Bridge in Devon

Scheduled To Take Place April 4, 2007

Milford/Stratford, CT— The Connecticut Department of Transportation officials have announced that a daytime closure of the Washington Bridge over the Housatonic River is scheduled to take place Wednesday, April 4, 2007. The bridge will be closed to vehicular and navigational traffic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 The closure is needed to complete a full mechanical inspection of the bridge which includes several testing cycles during the opening and closing of the bridge.

 Local police from Stratford and Milford will be available to assist motorists during the closure.  A detour will be in place with variable message signs posted on both I-95 and Route 1 to help facilitate the movement of traffic around the bridge closure.

 Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling through the construction work zone and allow for extra travel time.  Please travel at the posted speed limit to ensure the safety of both motorists and work zone crew members.
