Counterfeit Liberty Bank Money Orders

Date: September 15, 2008
Subject: Counterfeit Liberty Bank Money Orders

Summary: Counterfeit Liberty Bank Money Orders bearing the name Liberty Bank, Middletown, CT are in circulation. Each of the items has been in the amount of $950.00. The counterfeit items are associated with Internet based job offers to become a business “shopper”.

The counterfeit items include the routing number 211170282 which is assigned to Liberty Bank. The counterfeit items appear to be nearly identical to a valid money order.

The best way to determine if the item is counterfeit is to check the extreme right side of the front of the check. A valid item bears a red stop sign that is a heat sensitive security feature. Inside the stop sign are the words “STOP LOOK”. Printed around the stop sign are the words, “RUB HERE COLOR FADES WITH HEAT”. The red color in the stop sign fades momentarily when it is rubbed.

The counterfeit items no not have this heat sensitive feature.
