File a Debt Collection Agency Complaint


How do I submit a complaint?

The DOB licenses and regulates collection agencies who collect debts from Connecticut residents.

  1. Attempt to resolve the dispute by contacting the collection agency to resolve your dispute.
     
  2. If your dispute cannot be resolved, determine if the collection agency is licensed by the Department of Banking.  See consumer collection agencies licensed in Connecticut

  3. If you have been working with a collection agency that is not listed in NMLS (and not licensed in Connecticut), the Department of Banking also accepts complaints against unlicensed companies who are conducting collection agency activities on Connecticut residents.

Note:
In addition to the Department of Banking, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) supervises any debt collection firm with more than $10 million in annual receipts. If you need further assistance, you may submit your complaint with the CFPB online or by calling the CFBP at (855) 411-2372.
