DMV: Volunteer Firefighter Registrations

Volunteer Firefighters

Holiday Closing:  On Friday, October 5, DMV offices will close at 12:30 p.m. to observe the Columbus Day holiday.  Offices will remain closed on Saturday, October 6, and will reopen on Tuesday, October 9 at 7:45 a.m.

Volunteer Firefighters who currently have Volunteer Firefighter plates on their vehicle are required to substantiate that they are still active volunteers. Upon renewal of the registration the firefighter must:

  • Provide a photocopy of their Blue flashing light permit issued for this purpose
OR
  • Submit a letter from the Fire Chief attesting to their current status.

If the registrant is no longer a volunteer firefighter the registration of the vehicle must be changed to a standard type registration at renewal time. New Volunteer Firefighter plates are no longer issued.

For information on other types of available firefighter plates please see:

Connecticut Firefighter’s Plate or Uniformed Professional Firefighters Association of Connecticut Plate.
