DMV: Flashing Light Permits - Maintenance Vehicles

***Holiday Closing***:  On Friday, December 22, DMV offices will close at 12:30 p.m. to observe the Christmas Day holiday, and remain closed on Saturday, December 23.  Offices will reopen on Tuesday, December 26 at 7:45 a.m.

 
Please complete Flashing Lights and Siren Permit (form E-215) and submit with a $20 fee per permit.
 
Below are the maintenance vehicles that qualify for a flashing light permit and whom they are authorized by.
 
  • Cable Vehicles Construction Vehicles - Local Chief of Police or Resident State Trooper
  • Department of Transportation Inspectors -  Department of Transportation Regional Administrator
  • Escort Vehicles (CT) - Local Chief of Police or Resident State Trooper
  • Oil/Gas Delivery Vehicles - Local Chief of Police or Resident State Trooper
  • Road Service Vehicles - Local Chief of Police or Resident State Trooper
  • Rural Mail Carriers - Local Chief of Police or Resident State Trooper
  • Security Vehicles - Local Chief of Police or Resident State Trooper
  • Snowplowing - Local Chief of Police or Resident State Trooper
  • Utility Vehicles - Local Chief of Police or Resident State Trooper
  • Wreckers (commercial plates) - Local Chief of Police or Resident State Trooper
  • All Other Vehicles/Purposes - Local Chief of Police or Resident State Trooper
