WETHERSFIELD  – The Department of Motor Vehicles’s app for smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices reached 115,000 downloads recently as it marks the first-year anniversary for DMV offering customers this service. It features practice questions in English and Spanish for the knowledge test, a parents’ quiz, a list of DMV and AAA locations, and information about up-to-date wait times in branch offices.

“This moble app for tablets and smartphones continues to grow and surpassing the 115,000 benchmark shows how valuable our customers find it,” said DMV Commissioner Andres Ayala, Jr.

September Statistics list Apple devices having 69,777 downloads of the app while another 45,248 were for the Android system. The total downloads were 115,025.

“DMV Mobile is a very important application offering for the state of Connecticut DMV Customers,” said Paul VandenBussche, General Manager of Connecticut Interactive, which developed the app.  “We’re continually making efforts to improve on its initial success and make it more efficient for users in the future.”

The app was launched in September 2014 and since the initial launch DMV added a Spanish version of the practice knowledge tests and parents quiz. This enhancement to the application is part of the DMV's broad reach to multicultural audiences throughout the state. In Connecticut, residents speaking Spanish comprise the largest segment of second-language households, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

CT DMV Mobile is free to download from the iTunes Apple Store and Google Play on Apple and Android devices, respectively. The application can also be downloaded through the DMV website at http://ct.gov/dmv/apps.
