Obtaining a Learner's Permit
 
HOLIDAY SCHEDULE:  On Thursday, November 23, DMV offices will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday.  DMV offices will reopen on Friday, November 24. 
 
SERVICE UPDATE:  DMV has transitioned to a new, online-only appointment system for road tests.  You can find the new online appointment system here.

NEW PROCESS: You will not receive a permanent driver license or ID card while at a DMV or AAA office.   It will arrive through the mail.  You will keep your expiring license/ID and receive a temporary paper card.  For more on this, please see Central Issuance.  After visiting an office, you can track the delivery of your new card.
 
All new drivers are required to obtain a learner's permit before taking the on-the-road skills test for a driver's license.
