Obtaining a Learner's Permit

***Holiday Closing***:  On Friday, February 9, DMV offices will close at 12:30 p.m. to observe the President Washington's Birthday holiday, and remain closed on Saturday, February 10.  Offices will reopen on Tuesday, February 13, at 7:45 a.m.

For qualifications on obtaining a learner's permit for: 
All new drivers are required to obtain a learner's permit before taking the on-the-road skills test for a driver's license. 
Learner's permit testing is offered by appointment only at the following DMV offices:

GETTING YOUR PERMIT: You will not receive a learner's permit, permanent driver license or ID card while at a DMV or AAA office.   It will arrive through the mail.  You will keep your expiring license/ID and receive a temporary paper card.  For more on this, please see Central Issuance.  After visiting an office, you can track the delivery of your new card.
