Renewing a Non-Driver Photo ID
Renew a week or more before your birthday. You will not receive a permanent driver license or ID card while at a DMV service office. It will arrive through the mail. You may retain your expiring license or ID provided there are no changes other

If you are renewing your non-driver ID card you will have the option to verify your identity through the Real ID Program
. People verifying will get a gold star on the ID card. Those declining will have one stamped "Not for Federal Identification." The difference could be extra screening under a proposed federal program slated to go into effect in 2020 for airports and federal buildings and also use for possible commercial transactions. DMV will send out renewal notices for ID cards to the current address we have on file.
If your ID card is expired two or more years, follow the procedure for obtaining a new ID card.
When renewing, please proceed to a DMV office, AAA location, Milford and North Haven Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union, Stamford (The WorkPlace, Inc.) or West Haven City Hall and bring with you the following:
The renewal notice (if available).
- If you have had a name change since your ID card was issued you must present an original or certified copy of a: marriage license; civil union certificate; divorce decree; or a probate court name change document to verify the name change.
NOTE: AAA locations, Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union, Stamford (The WorkPlace, Inc.) and West Haven City may charge a convenience fee up to $8.00 per DMV transaction.
