DMV: Driver's License - Refunds

License Refunds

SERVICE UPDATE:  As DMV transitions to a new, online-only appointment system for road tests, DMV will stop taking road test appointments on October 21 and October 23, and will resume October 24 with its new convenient online system.  See more information here

Connecticut law does not provide for a refund on a Connecticut operator's license fee.  However, if an individual renews his/her license and becomes deceased before the expiration of his/her previous license (birthday), a refund can be issued to the heirs on the grounds that the renewed license was never used.

To request a reimbursement, please submit a letter explaining the set of circumstances.  Be sure to include the recently renewed license and a copy of the operator's Certificate of Death and mail to:

Department of Motor Vehicles
 Bureau of Customer Services
 60 State Street
 Wethersfield, Connecticut 06161
