***Holiday Closing***:  On Friday, February 9, DMV offices will close at 12:30 p.m. to observe the President Washington's Birthday holiday, and remain closed on Saturday, February 10.  Offices will reopen on Tuesday, February 13, at 7:45 a.m.

 
 
To qualify for an exchange, your driver's license, learner's permit or non-driver photo ID that you currently hold must:
  • Be issued from Connecticut; and
  • Must be current or not expired for more than 2 years.

Issued up to 6 years to expire on your birthday. Exact duration depends on the date of issuance and your date of birth.  
 Exchange your non-driver photo ID for a
new learner's permit.
$19 for permit; $40 testing fee (vision, knowledge and road) 
Issued for 2 years from date of issuance.  
 Exchange your non-driver photo ID for your previous driver's license.
(Previous license is valid for longer than 6 months.)
$30  
Issued with expiration date of previous driver's license. 
 Exchange your non-driver photo ID for your previous driver's license.
(Previous license is expiring within 6 months or has expired for less than 2 years.) 
 $72 (plus $25 late fee if your previous driver's license is expired.)
Issued with expiration date of 6 years from previous driver's license expiration date.
