Fees for Apportioned Registration (IRP)

Acceptable Forms of Payment at DMV office locations.

Type Description
Apportioned Fee - For commercial vehicles over 26,000 lbs. gross weight and/or three or more axles performing interstate hauls.
The CT fee is the percentage of the regular Commercial fee determined by the percentage of miles traveled in CT in a year.

The "foreign" registration fee is the sum of the percentages of each jurisdiction’s full commercial fee, as determined by the percentage of miles traveled in each jurisdiction in a year.
72-hour Trip Permit
$15.00 plus $2.00 if obtained from a wire service.
The wire service would also charge a fee for service. Usually the total fee is $40.00 to $50.00.
Note: Non-APPORTIONED Connecticut Commercial vehicles over 26,000 lbs. or multi-axle must obtain TRIP PERMITS from other jurisdictions to operate in these other jurisdiction.
45-Day Temporary Authority
$15.00 plus $2.00 if obtained from a wire service.
Issued to carriers with IRP accounts in good standing to add a vehicle to the account, or change registered weight, etc. of a vehicle already in account.
Renewal Late Fee (for apportioned registrations not renewed within 5 days after expiration) $150
Duplicate Cabcard $20.00
Apportioned Plate Fee $5.00
Hunter's Permit
Used to travel empty to "hunt" for a job or to return home
$20.00
Replacement of Apportioned Plate $25.00 ($20.00 substitute registration plus $5.00 plate fee)
