Obtaining Wrecker Plates 

Only a licensed Dealer or Repairer (not recycler) may obtain a wrecker registration and plates under Connecticut State Law Title 14 Sec. 14-66. A wrecker inspection will also be required if the wrecker is an out-of-state vehicle or is at least 10 years old (there is no fee for this inspection).

Wrecker inspections are performed by the DMV's Commercial Vehicle Safety Division.

After the wrecker has been inspected, you will need the following documentation for registration:

  1. A completed H-13 registration application.
  2. Proof of ownership (title or certificate of origin).
  3. A Bill of Sale or invoice.
  4. Passed wrecker inspection report.
  5. Two-year registration is a fee of $125 plus additional fees for taxes and title.
  6. A copy of the dealer/repairer license.
  7. A copy of the towing and storage rates filed with the Dealers and Repairers Division. Towing and storage rate forms may be obtained from:
