DMV Closes Friday at 12:30 p.m., But AAA Offices Will be Open
WETHERSFIELD – The Department of Motor Vehicles announced that extensions will be given to those whose licenses, ID cards, registrations and other similar DMV credentials that expired on Thursday, February 9, and during the next few days. The extensions run through Wednesday, February 15.
In addition, all DMV offices will close today, Friday, at 12:30 p.m. due to the upcoming federal and state holiday on Monday and will reopen Tuesday, February 14, at 7:45 a.m. However, AAA offices will be open Friday, Saturday and Monday for license and ID card renewals. Due to expected heavy customer volume Friday, DMV advises those with license, ID card and registration renewals to take advantage of the extensions as well as use AAA. The schedule of AAA's operating hours and locations can be found at ct.gov/dmv/offices
During the extension period for those whose expirations begin today, the credential will be valid and law enforcement will be advised. Renewals under this extension must be done by the close of DMV offices on Wednesday. Beginning Thursday, February 16, the expired credentials will become invalid, late fees will be charged and persons who are non-compliant may face enforcement action. Emissions tests are not affected by this extension.
Registration renewals can also be done online at ct.gov/dmv/online. Other services are also available through the DMV website.
All road skills tests, learner’s permit tests and administrative hearings were canceled for Thursday and are being rescheduled. However, anyone who has not been contacted by DMV and needs to re-schedule a road test should call 860-263-5700 within the Hartford area and those outside the Hartford area can call toll-free at 800-842-8222 during DMV business hours. Knowledge tests can only be rescheduled by going on-line at ct.gov/dmv/online and then go to appointments.
