DMV Expanding Learner’s Permit Test Appointments
to Wethersfield Office
WETHERSFIELD – The Department of Motor Vehicles began today offering online appointments that start September 17 for scheduling adult and teen learner’s permit tests in its Wethersfield office at 60 State St.
“This marks the continuing expansion of our very popular learner's permit appointment system and we are pleased to bring it to Wethersfield,” said DMV Commissioner Melody A. Currey. Online appointments can also be made for the DMV Cheshire, Norwalk and Bridgeport offices as part of this new and growing service DMV is offering to help customers avoid waiting in line.
The first appointment for a test in Wethersfield is September 17, and the system will replace that office’s current walk-in and wait for learner’s permit tests.  Customers should go online today at to book appointments because schedules fill quickly.
An overwhelming majority – 94 percent – of over 11,000 customers using DMV’s appointment system since opening in May 2012 report being “very satisfied” with the entire process.
With a home computer, portable laptop, tablet, smartphone or any device with an internet someone can schedule the learner’s permit knowledge test for a specific day at one of DMV’s four test centers offering appointments. Computers with internet access are also in the test center offices to make an appointment or can be found at places such as a local public library for access to the internet-based system.
After entering required information, a $59 payment for the learner's permit test must be made through a major credit card or electronic check. There are no extra charges for making an online appointment.
The appointment service is part of a multi-million dollar effort at DMV to better integrate technology that produces taxpayer savings and makes government more responsive.
