DMHAS and Screening for Mental Health, Inc. (SMH) is working with the Connecticut State University System (CSU), Central, Eastern, Southern and Western Connecticut State Universities, to develop a quality, sustainable infrastructure and expertise in the implementation of an innovative program/practice utilizing the SMH CollegeResponse Model (SOS-Signs of Suicide and NDSD-National Depression Screening Day) and the QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) Institute QPR Gatekeeper Model.

CollegeResponse Program

  • CollegeResponse offers programs to promote prevention, early detection and treatment of prevalent, under-diagnosed and treatable mental health disorders and alcohol problems affecting college students. Through online and in-person screening tools, CollegeResponse provides confidential and effective programs.
  • SOS (Signs of Suicide) for Universities (new students).
  • National Depression Screening Day (NDSD), October (students, faculty, staff, and other university personnel).
QPR Gatekeeper Training of Trainers (Counseling Center Staff)
  • Colleges may participate in the self-directed course or a training provided by a QPR Master Trainer.
  • Course provides information, materials, and skills necessary to present Gatekeeper trainings.

QPR Gatekeeper Training (faculty, staff, campus police, RA, and other university personnel)

  • Recognize the warning signs of suicide
  • Know how to offer hope
  • Know how to get help and save a life
