DMHAS: CYSPI - Technical Assistance

DMHAS Prevention and Health Promotion Unit

CYSPI Technical Assistance

The Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC) operates through a cooperative agreement that was awarded by SAMHSA to the Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC) in Newton, MA. The funds for this cooperative agreement were appropriated in 2002 to allow for the development and operation of a national suicide prevention technical resource center. This center was created by virtue of an appropriation, not an authorization.

In 2005, the SPRC was granted by SAMHSA to provide tailored technical assistance to all SAMHSA/CMHS grantees, CT included, that are funded through two separate suicide-prevention initiatives, the Cooperative Agreements for State Sponsored Youth Suicide Prevention and Early Intervention Program and Campus Suicide Prevention Grant Program.  Specifically, the SPRC:

1)     Assists States, Territories, Tribes, and communities in their efforts to plan for the development, implementation, and evaluation of suicide prevention programs across the lifespan; approved, evidence-based, mental health;

2)     Assembles and make available to the field a repository of reliable, culturally appropriate information, materials, and resources on suicide;

3)     Assists in the development of resources to address existing gaps in the field; and

4)     Serves as a clearinghouse of materials to be disseminated on best practices of suicide prevention strategies and techniques.

In addition, the SPRC collaborates with the Evaluation Contractor, ORC Macro International, to assist with content knowledge, training, report drafting, and the packaging and disseminating of project findings.
