  Lower Your Risk For Gambling Problems


  • Set a clear limit on the amount of money you will spend gambling and stick to it.  If you lose, stop.

  • Donít borrow money or use credit to gamble.

  • Gamble for recreation, not believing you can make money.

  • Donít gamble as a way of avoiding or getting relief from emotional or physical pain.

  • Donít gamble as a response to personal or financial stress.

  • Gamble only what you can afford to lose.

  • Have balance in your life.  Develop several ways to enjoy your leisure time and money.

  • Understand the odds of winning and losing.

  • Understand that you cannot control chance events or manipulate the odds.

  • Know the warning signs for problem gambling.

  • Know the situations and circumstances that may place you at higher risk for gambling problems.

  • Donít gamble when under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.
