Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands struggle to recover from the
devastation caused by this summer’s hurricanes, we anticipate an increasing
number of their residents will come to Connecticut,” Governor Malloy
said. “These guides will provide new arrivals with the resources they
need to get back on their feet. While we do not know the number of
residents we can expect to move temporarily or permanently to our state, we are
making preparations to help meet their needs. I want to thank Connecticut
United Way 211 for their assistance in developing this guide, and for all of
their efforts to help those affected by recent natural disasters.” “Connecticut
welcomes those who have been displaced by Hurricane Maria, and we want to make
their transition as easy as possible,” Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman said.
“These evacuees have endured devastation – losing loved ones, homes,
businesses, and a sense of safety in their lives. Ensuring they have the
resources to rebuild is critical, and it’s the right thing to do. I thank
Governor Malloy and Connecticut United Way 211 for putting together this guide,
and for their commitment to all of our residents.” “To
assist people relocating to Connecticut as a result of Hurricane Maria, United
Way 2-1-1 has published a relocation resource guide in both Spanish and English
that provides important information to help people arriving in our state,”
Connecticut United Way President and CEO Richard Porth said. “I would
like to thank all of our emergency management partners that helped make this
guide a success.” “I
would like to thank United Way 2-1-1 and our partner state agencies for their
many efforts and heartfelt work in putting this valuable resource guide
together,” Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection Commissioner
Dora Schriro said. “Along with our other support activities, this guide
will assist people coming to Connecticut as a result of Hurricane Maria to
access important information as they enter our state.” The
Hurricane Resources Guide provides detailed information on programs and services
that can help those arriving from Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin
