                              STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE FATAL RESIDENTIAL FIRE

   Connecticut State Troopers and the Pomfret Fire Department responded to a residential house fire overnight May 24, 2014.  Upon arrival, the Pomfret Fire Department attacked the fire that had fully engulfed the residence located at 421 Brooklyn Road in Pomfret.  

   The residence was completely destroyed. It was determined that one person was not accounted for at the scene. A search of the fire scene was conducted by Firefighters. In addition, a State Police K-9 responded to the scene and located a deceased person in the fire scene.
  
   The identity of the deceased victim is not confirmed at this time. The Office of the Chief State’s Medical Examiner conducted a post mortem examination and determined that the person died as a result of the fire. 


   The Pomfret Fire Marshal requested the assistance of the State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit to conduct the investigation into the cause and origin of this residential fire. 

   The investigation is ongoing.
