                        STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE TROOPER-INVOLVED SHOOTING

On 01/11/14, shortly after 8:10 p.m., a State Trooper on patrol observed  a violation and erratic operation on Route 12 in Plainfield.  The Trooper observing the violation attempted to stop the violator in the motor vehicle. The Trooper activated his lights and siren.  The accused refused to stop and fled from the Trooper engaging the Trooper in pursuit.  The pursuit entered I-395 south, near exit #83, where addition troopers attempted to assist in the motor vehicle stop. The suspect was finally stopped on I-395 and then he began to ram state police cruisers with the suspect vehicle.

The Troopers surrounding the suspect exited their patrol cars and gave verbalized commands to the suspect operator to exit his vehicle. The suspect then began to ram the police vehicles moving back and forth trying to continue to elude the police.  The suspect then began to try to drive the suspect vehicle toward a Trooper on foot.  Troopers continued to command the operator to stop. As the suspect continued, one Trooper on foot was forced to draw his service weapon and fire at the advancing suspect vehicle.

The suspect was struck by the round and received a non-life threatening gunshot wound.  He was taken into custody and Troopers provided emergency care to the wounded suspect.  The suspect was transported by ambulance to Backus Hospital where he was treated and released to State Police custody.  A passenger in the suspect car was not injured and has not been charged.  The Trooper was taken to L & M Hospital where he was treated for minor injury and released.

The State Police Central District Major Crime Squad responded to the scene to conduct the investigation into this use of force.

Preliminary State Police investigation determined that the accused was on parole and was wearing an ankle bracelet.  As a result of this information the suspect was remanded back to the Department of Correction to be incarcerated.

   The suspect is identified as:

   Corey, Keith  DOB: 5/22/69
   25 Clifton Street
   Waterford, CT

The State Police investigation is continuing, assisted by the State Attorney's Office.
