STATE POLICE MAKE ARREST IN FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT

On August 6, 2013,  Troopers from the Colchester State Police Barracks were dispatched to reports of a one car collision on West Street in Hebron.  Responding Troopers arrived to find that a Toyota pick-up truck had struck a tree.  The collision had resulted in the ejection of a passenger in the vehicle, who died as a result of injuries sustained during the collision.  Two other passengers were observed running from the scene.

The subsequent investigation determined that just prior to the collision, the vehicle had left an underage party in Marlborough.  The seventeen-year-old operator of the vehicle was operating while under the influence of alcohol, at a rate of speed well above the posted speed limit of 35 miles per hour, failed to obey a stop sign, lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree. Two passengers who were observed running from the scene were located at the location where the party had taken place.

On December 12, 2013, Troopers from the Colchester State Police Barracks arrested the seventeen-year-old operator on the strength of an arrest warrant issued by Rockville Superior Court.  The seventeen-year-old operator was charged with:

   Manslaughter in the first degree

Reckless Endangerment in the first degree (3 counts)

   Interfering with an officer

   False Statement

Operation by a person under 21 while Blood Alcohol Content exceeds .02%

Reckless operation of a motor vehicle

Failure to obey a stop sign

   License restriction violation (2 counts)

The seventeen-year-old operator was taken into custody without incident at his residence and transported to Troop K.

The seventeen year old operator was processed on the above charges, held on a $150,000.00 court set bond and transported to Willimantic Juvenile Court for presentment.
