CONNECTICUT STATE POLICE LOCATE ABDUCTED CHILDREN

On May 20, 2013, at about 11:00 p.m., Connecticut  State Police at Troop C in Tolland received a 911 call from a truck driver from Downington, PA, stating  he was traveling on Interstate 84 westbound in the area of exit 65 in Vernon. He stated that he was driving behind a Massachusetts registered car (MA 478RF8) that was the subject of an Amber Alert out of Massachusetts.

Connecticut State Troopers were sent to the area to attempt to locate that suspect vehicle.  The complainant followed the suspect vehicle as it exited I-84 at exit 62 in Manchester, went  left and the complainant lost sight of the vehicle.

Connecticut Troopers confirmed the Amber Alert with the Massachusetts State Police.  Connecticut Troopers searched the area and located the suspect vehicle at a 7-Eleven store located at Route 30 and Pleasant Valley Road in South Windsor.  Connecticut Troopers approached the vehicle and located the children who were the subjects of the Massachusetts Amber Alert. They both were hidden under blankets and pillows and they were uninjured.  Troopers entered the store and located the suspect as he exited the restroom. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Braintree, MA, Police Department requested the subject be held for Felony Charges in Massachusetts. The suspect was transported to Connecticut State Police at Troop C where he was held on Connecticut charges.  Troopers searched the suspect vehicle and numerous items were located; it appeared the suspect planned a long road trip.

The suspect was charged with 2 counts of Risk of Injury to a Minor for leaving the children in the unlocked vehicle alone while he went into the 7-Eleven store; a $10,000 bond was set.  He was also charged as a Fugitive from Justice for the crimes in Massachusetts, held on a $1,000,000.00 bond.

The suspect will be presented at GA-12 Manchester on 05/21/13.  The vehicle was seized as evidence for the Braintree P.D. The children were transferred to the Massachusetts State Police to be returned to their foster home in Braintree, MA.
