Today, May 10, 2013, fire, EMS, and State Police responded to an emergency call reporting that an explosion had occurred at the Austin Powder Company, 332 Ekonk Hill Road, in Sterling CT.  The initial report indicated that one person had sustained injury form the incident. Local fire, & EMS and State Police responded to the scene and immediately provided emergency care to the one injured person. He was transported to Backus Hospital by ambulance with reported burn injury.

Firefighters secured the facility and evacuated the company employees from the facility to a safe distance.  The local fire marshal requested the response of the State Police Fire & Explosion Unit Troopers to conduct this investigation.
