STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT IN STAFFORD
Today, January 24, 2013, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Troopers at Troop C received a report from the M & J School Bus Company, Middle River Road, Stafford, that a bullet had been found by a bus driver who had completed his school bus runs and was conducting a final inspection of his bus. It was learned that as the driver was inspecting the bus, he located a single bullet on a seat.
Additional State Troopers immediately responded to the bus company and to the high school, middle school and elementary schools, as well as St. Edward’s School in Stafford. The bullet was seized and the school bus runs were documented, including all students who would have utilized this specific bus that morning.
Troopers and State Police K-9 Teams who responded to all of the Stafford schools conducted searches of each facility and interviewed the students who utilized the bus in which the bullet was found. The student body at each school was locked in place in the building per school officials as the State Police searches were conducted.
School officials also notified parents of this ongoing incident via telephone messages. All of the schools were searched by State Police K-9 Teams and Troopers with negative results. No additional bullets or similar contraband were discovered. All lockdowns and searches by Troopers were completed by approximately 11:45 a.m. Nothing was located. The lockdown of each school was lifted as the searches were completed.
The Stafford Resident State Trooper is continuing this investigation in an effort to determine the origin of the bullet found on the school bus.
