STATE POLICE

                                          NEW YEAR’S ENFORCEMENT OPERATION 

   The Connecticut State Police will continue the New Years Enforcement Operation statewide.  Troopers have been assigned to patrol both highways and secondary roads across the State of Connecticut.

   The operation has been in effect starting at 12/29/12 at 12 midnight and will continue through midnight on 1/2/13.  Troopers have manned sobriety checkpoints and have been assigned to specific areas where higher than normal DUI accidents and arrests have taken place

   The following stats are taken from the operation starting on  12/29/12 0001 hours to 12/31/12 at 6:30 a.m.:

Accidents: 324

     with injury: 29

Fatals:  0

DUI Arrests:   25

Speeding:  280

Seatbelt: 17

Hazardous Moving Violations (following too close, cell phone violations, unsafe lane change, etc): 531

   Troopers are asking anyone who sees a suspected drunk driver to call 911 as this is a true emergency.
