STATE POLICE ARREST MAN FOR ENTICING A MINOR
On 01/05/12, the Connecticut State Police initiated an Internet Crimes Against Children Investigation (I.C.A.C.) and posted a personal ad on a popular website.
One of the many responses received was from Mark Smith (DOB: 12/02/67) of 14 Belvedere Road, North Haven. Over several months, Smith and State Police Detectives communicated via e-mail. Smith expressed to an undercover detective, who was using a 14-year-old male persona, his attraction for what he believed was a 14-year-old male.
Smith then e-mailed the undercover persona inappropriate photos and verbage. Smith indicated his intent to meet in a hotel room with what he believed was a 14-year-old male.
The accused was charged with Criminal Attempt to Entice a Minor (53a-49/53a-90a) and Criminal Attempt to Impair the Morals of a Child (53-49/53-21).
Smith is being held on $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court at GA#4 in Waterbury on 11/15/12. Because Smith has part-time custody of his daughter, the Department of Children and Families was notified.
