STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE ARMED ROBBERY IN EAST LYME
On October 11, 2012, shortly after 5:00 p.m., State Police received 911 calls reporting a bank robbery had taken place at the Savings Institute Bank and Trust, located at 305 Flanders ROad in East Lyme.
Troopers and East Lyme Officers responded to the crime scene. The area was secured and a search was conducted by responding Troopers and State Police K-9 units. A physical description of the accused was obtained from witnesses.
State Police Major Crime Detectives responded to the scene to conduct a criminal investigation into this armed robbery. Troopers determined that upon entry into the bank, the suspect stated that he possessed a weapon and he demanded cash. The suspect fled from the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Troopers advised all surrounding police agencies of the robbery and provided a physical description of the suspect. Troopers processed the crime scene and uncovered both physical and forensic evidence.
State Police are asking anyone who might have been in the area of the bank at the time of the robbery and might have seen anything suspicious to contact State Police at (860) 848-6500. All calls will be kept confidential.
