STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE FATAL SHOOTING

On 09/27/2012 at approximately shortly after 1:00 a.m. the New Fairfield Resident State Trooper’s Office and Troopers from Troop A were notified of a possible attempted burglary with shots fired at 7 Meeting House Circle in New Fairfield.  Responding Troopers & officers located two subjects in front of the residence, one being an adult male dressed in a t-shirt and shorts who was sitting on the grass to the side of the residence.  The second subject was lying on the ground in the driveway with obvious gunshot injuries, holding a weapon.  EMS personnel arrived and pronounced the male subject victim deceased at the scene.

A preliminary criminal investigation determined that the homeowner at 7 Meetinghouse Hill Circle was home alone, called her next door neighbor to report that she believed that an unknown subject was outside her home attempting to gain access to her home.  The neighbor armed himself with a handgun and came outside to investigate.  He immediately encountered a subject standing in front of the caller’s house dressed in all black clothing, wearing a black ski mask and holding a shiny object in his hand.  A confrontation occurred, during which the subject came toward him in a threatening manner, still holding the object in his hand.  Believing the suspect was armed with a weapon and about to attack him, the neighbor discharged his personal handgun at the suspect.  The male suspect collapsed and subsequently was pronounced dead at the scene.

State Police Western District Major Crime Squad Detectives responded to investigate this incident assisted by the State Police Central District Major Crime Squad.  Detectives are processing the scene for physical and forensic evidence. State Police Detectives are also conducting interviews of witness at this time and the investigation is ongoing.

The deceased has been identified as Tyler Giuliano DOB: 08/02/97 of 9 Meeting House Circle New Fairfield.    A Post Mortem examination was conducted by the Office of the Chief States Medical Examiner.  It was determined the deceased died of multiple gunshot wounds.

The weapon in possession of the deceased at the time of this incident was determined by troopers to be a knife

This incident is an isolated incident and has no relation to any other incident in the community.

Troopers are not seeking any other suspects related to this shooting.

The case remains under investigation.
